Safer gold mining in rain forests

“For several years, there has been a gold rush in the Amazon rainforest area in Peru. One of the biggest problems in the thousands of unofficial sites is the use of mercury. We have trained local authorities and gold-diggers to use cleaner and more-efficient gold enrichment methods. The main concerns behind the development cooperation project funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs are the environment and people’s health, which the more efficient methods help to protect.”
